3 Sweets to Try This Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan is not just about tying the thread; it is about making memories. And what else is better than to celebrate this beautiful bond of siblings with traditional Indian sweets made at home?

Sumeet Cookware believes that food is a love language. So, this time, let us skip store-bought sweets and cook something that says, “I made this for you,” with love, warmth, and of course, the right cookware.

Here are 3 classic Indian sweets to make this Rakhi sweeter than ever, recipes which are easy to prepare, and rich in tradition.

1.      Gulab Jamun

Soft, golden, and soaked in sugar syrup, Gulab Jamuns are always a hit and must-have on Raksha Bandhan. Whether made using a trusted pre-mix or made from scratch, they melt hearts every time.

For this recipe, we will need Khoya, all-purpose flour, baking soda, warm milk to knead, ghee or oil for deep frying, sugar, water, and cardamom.

Start by kneading khoya, flour, baking soda, with milk into a soft dough, rest the dough for 10 minutes, then start shaping it into soft balls without cracks, fry in Sumeet Non-Stick Kadhai on low heat until golden brown.

Take a Sumeet Saucepan for preparing syrup, dissolve sugar and water in equal amounts add cardamom and saffron, let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.

Soak the fried jamuns in hot syrup for at least 30 minutes.

2.      Malpua

Golden, crispy edges with a soft center, soaked in cardamom syrup, Malpua feels like a royal yet festive treat that turns simple ingredients into something truly decadent.

All you will need to make malpua is all-purpose flour, semolina, fennel seeds, milk, sugar, ghee, cardamom powder, rose water.

Begin with mixing flour, semolina, fennel seeds, and milk to form a thick pancake-like batter. Let it rest for 30 minutes. In a Sumeet Non-Stick Pan take some ghee and pour ladle-full of batter to form small rounds, cook on low heat until golden and crisp. In a separate pan prepare sugar syrup with sugar, cardamom, and rose water. Dip the cooked malpuas in the syrup and let it soak for a few minutes.

3.      Coconut Barfi

Those who are looking for a simple yet traditional sweet that will take less time and fewer ingredients, coconut barfi is a go-to. It is aromatic, soft, and perfectly festive.

You will need freshly grated coconut, condensed milk, cardamom powder, and ghee.

Use Sumeet Non-Stick Kadhai to cook the mixture evenly without sticking or burning.

In a heated pan, add grated coconut, stir for 2-3 minutes, then add condensed milk and cardamom powder. Cook the mixture until it is thick and leaves the side of the Kadhai, and spread it onto a greased plate and smooth out the surface. After it cools, cut it into squares.

Whether it is the softness of a gulab jamun, the traditions of malpua, or the simplicity of coconut barfi, these are not just sweet recipes. They are nostalgia served warm. So this Raksha Bandhan, cook not just with ingredients, but with love, memories, and the promise of togetherness. And let Sumeet Cookware be your trusted kitchen companion on this journey.
